Autumn Term 1

We all really enjoyed our Stone Age topic this half term. We put our historical skills to the test by looking at sources of evidence left behind by prehistoric people that have been studied by archaeologists. We learnt about the changes and developments that occurred in the Stone Age, such as the technological advances in tools, the establishment of settlements like Skara Brae, and the growth of farming. We discovered that the word 'prehistory' means the time before written records began, and we looked at each of the three Stone Age periods: the Paleolithic (Old Stone Age), the Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age), and the Neolithic (New Stone Age). 

Stone Age Afternoon

Our topic was brought to life by Mr Simmonds who taught us all about daily life for Stone Age people. We talked about the importance of evidence discovered by archaeologists and how this gives us clues about the past. We learnt how Stone Age people would use flint to make tools by chipping the stone away, in a process called 'knapping', and had lots of fun carving into carrots using this important Stone Age material. We had a wonderful afternoon!
