PSHE/PATHS
PSHE at Blofield Primary School
At Blofield Primary, we believe that young people need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is an important part of our rich, broad and ambitious curriculum. It is underpinned by our embedded school values of Fairness, Respect, Challenge, Perseverance and Thoughtfulness.
Our PSHE curriculum is a spiral curriculum; the overarching themes are repeated each year but the content advances. This enables the children to deepen their understanding of the core themes as they progress through the school. Consultation with the children has created a curriculum that is relevant to them, whilst ensuring that all the statutory requirements are met.
PSHE lessons are planned to provide a careful balance of knowledge and skills. Children have the opportunity to rehearse the skills they need to apply the knowledge in the real world. Time is given for them to reflect on their own values and opinions, and for them to ask questions and discuss in a safe and supportive environment.
Assessment opportunities are imbedded within lessons, to ensure that progress is being made by all children. Implicit methods avoid creating barriers to engagement and ensure that we meet the needs of all.
PATHS®
In addition to our PSHE curriculum, we are currently teaching the PATHS® programme. The PATHS® Programme for Schools is designed to facilitate the development of self-control, emotional awareness and interpersonal problem-solving skills. Following the period of COVID lockdowns (2020-2021) we identified a need for our children to develop their emotional awareness and resilience. We began implementing the programme in September 2022. Relationships Education
Our school teaches RSE using a Norfolk scheme called ‘RSE Solutions’ which covers the required content from the government guidance. It is taught throughout each year group and prepares children for life now and in the future. It provides children with the opportunity to talk about these areas in a safe environment. Each year, teaching builds on prior learning.
Below is an overview explaining what will be covered in each year group.
