Forest School
Forest School is a child-led approach to learning which is fun and unhurried. Its aim is to nurture the holistic development of each child, supporting their social, emotional and physical growth. Forest School promotes an appreciation of the natural world, encouraging children to develop a responsibility for nature conservation. Learners are responsible for making their own decisions and are carefully supported to achieve.
At Blofield Primary, all children in KS1 and KS2 participate in weekly Forest School sessions for a whole term each year. Within these sessions, pupils are encouraged to climb trees, build shelters and be creative. Children have opportunities to light fires, prepare food to cook over the campfire and use a variety tools safely. In giving learners these opportunities within a controlled and safe environment, they can build resilience, become more independent, grow in confidence and develop risk management strategies.
